National Institute of Technology (NITs) was earlier known as Regional Engineering College (RECs). Out of the 17 RECs there are 13 colleges that have been selected by the Government of India, to be called as NITs. Now these NITs which were operational from 1998 have been equipped with the latest technological and research facilities to provide the best education in all disciplines of engineering to the incoming students.

The NIT's are on par with the best Engineering schools not only in the country, but also in the world. The NITS have been have been set up to develop high quality technical personnel with sound footing on basic engineering principles, technical skills, innovative research capabilities and exemplary professional conduct to use technology for the progress of mankind, adapting themselves to changing technical environment with highest ethical values as the inner strength.
